Glossary of terms Niemann-Pick disease is a disease caused by an inherited disorder of lipid metabolism (sphingophospholipids). There is an accumulation of sphingomyelin in the liver, brain, spleen, adrenal glands, kidneys, lymph nodes, skin and blood mononuclear cells.
